Amorica: Land of the Tree pt1

I just got home from Amorical Cup: Detroit, with 304 coaches making up 76 teams this was the largest bloodbowl tournament ever in the Americas. I arrived Thursday night so I could get up early to defend my second son’s title (I didn’t) then I played 3 games of Motor City Sevens (where I narrowly avoided last place.) Saturday the tournament hosted four games, with the last two happening Sunday. All this is to say, I don’t remember much. Having such a poor memory allows me to keep a positive attitude I guess. Thankfully I took pictures,

Day 0

Sea Holly (probably)

I love plants. I love birds. I love rocks. I love nature. I hate sink holes. Of course the first picture I take is to identify a plant I saw in a garden. I don’t know if this plant will like Cincinnati Clay soil but I may give it a go some day.

Tokai.

I didn’t take enough pictures of this place. Had dinner with Dave and McCarthy, who I rode up with. Dave was thoughtful enough to not only look up restaurants I would like but he also made reservations a week out. I wore a dress shirt cause I felt it was necessary since he made reservations. The reservations were necessary, the dress shirt was not. This restaurant had a very middle class blade runner feel, patinas on the walls and neon lights. The food was fancy Thai food and every dish was phenomenal. I don’t do much dining out that isn’t mom and pop greasy spoons so I may not be the best barometer for quality but it was some of the best food I’ve had.

The one picture of the 6-8 courses we had. Curry noodles.
I was told there would broiling cauldrons

I was pretty geeked about the hot tubs at the Sheraton – that people raved about….. they were removed three years ago. Instead I swam alone in a not cold pool. Tepid all around.

That was Thursday night as I geared up for the 12 games of bloodbowl over the next three days. Overall a very pleasant ride in and a wonderful dinner. Thanks Dave for the thoughtfulness and McCarthy for the hospitality!

This is definitely going to be a three parter.
